Biography of Edith Hamilton

Hamilton became well-known through her writings as a popularizer of classical values and Greek civilization. A full-time writer from 1922 on, she became an honorary citizen of Athens, Greece, in 1950.

Description

The collection contains typescript and galley proofs of Hamilton's work The Ever-Present Past, 29 notebooks on various topics relating to Greek/Roman civilization, and correspondence, consisting of letters to John Mason Brown (1931-1961) and from Storer B. Lunt, her publisher at W. W. Norton (1957). There are also copies of letters to Hamilton from John Mason Brown (1930-1963), some newspaper clippings, and some obituary material.
