Organizational History

The President's Standing Committee on the Status of Women was established in 1989 by president Harold Shapiro. The organization's purpose is to serve the greater University community by advising the President about issues of concern to women, to develop and recommend strategies for addressing these issues, and to review University policies and procedures in terms of their impact on women. Biweekly staff, monthly staff, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students are all represented on the committee, which oversees a number of task forces dedicated to specific issues.

Description

Consists of the records of the committee including correspondence, meeting minutes, memos, subject files, and the records of the separate task forces that have operated under the auspices of the committee.

Files older than 40 years that do not contain student educational records, faculty personnel matters or trustee issues are open.

This collection is unprocessed and must be reviewed for potentially restricted records before access is given. Please contact the University Archives prior to your visit.
